Sitting alone in a cafe, with maybe a novel to keep me company, along with some good music, enjoying a warm cup of coffee can be described as my favourite way to pass the evenings.
Yes, sometimes it gets monotonous, but I still don't give up my habit and visit the cafe the next evening, without fail. I would never give up my coffee for anything!
But today, its different.
The cafe I visit every day, is crowded with people from every age group today; More crowded than I have ever seen it. I somehow manage to grab my favourite spot and order a cup of coffee. Then I start to look around.
In one corner, I can see a couple celebrating their son's first birthday party with a lot of cheer. There is cake, drinks, games, chocolates and everything that brings a smile to a child's face. Even sitting in my chair, I can see the joy of motherhood radiating from the young mother's face, and the pride in the father's eyes.
In another part of the cafe, a group of girls, probably from the nearby college, are laughing at a joke one of them cracked. They are eyeing the group of boys sitting at a nearby table. There are the usual flirtatious voices in the air, from both ends. Well, I wonder to myself, it started with Adam and Eve, only God knows where it will end!
At another table, right in the centre of the cafe, I see four girls sitting together quietly, smiling. By the look on their face, it seems as if each of them is thinking about something; something that may have happened long ago... Looks like a group of girls who had been the best of friends at one time, but parted ways for some reason.Maybe this is their reunion, where they have come together to remember all those moments again...Laughing at an old joke, remembering an old habit, frowning at an embarrassing memory, playing the old 'group' song...And trying to re-live the bond they once shared.
Right in front of me, sits a young couple talking in low voices. The woman's eyes are wet, the man looks indifferent. Probably marking the end of a long relationship, which may have been the joy of their lives not long ago, but is not wanted anymore.
Just near the window, sits an elderly couple. They have their walking stick lying nearby. They have just finished their cup of warm tea, and are looking at each other. Just that look on their faces tells a story of everything they have shared in their lives. The joys, the sorrows, the fights, the tears... But above all, the love and companionship that still binds them together. They pay the bill, politely thanking the waiter, reminding you of the bygone era of values such as courtesy and politeness. They both get up and extend their hands towards the walking sticks... At that very moment, a young boy runs in, looking all sweaty, dirty, yet sweet - something only the young sportsmen can manage, shouting at the top of his voice 'Grandpa, Grandma let's go!!' and linking his hands with those of old couple's. They both look at each other and share a smile worth thousands words and walk off; leaving the walking sticks in the cafe.
People say that it takes thousands of lifetimes to experience all the emotions known to humans. But today, I saw a glimpse of it...
All over a cup of coffee......
